The Sound is a fictional sci-fi film centered on climbing. Rowdy was asked to second-unit direct and produce the real climbing scenes, giving the film a visual approach that could support its imaginative world without losing the physical truth of the sport.

Accurate Climbing

Professional climbers made the scenes credible to the community.
Using longstanding relationships in the climbing community, Rowdy’s second-unit team brought Alex Honnold, Brette Harrington, and other professional climbers into the production. Their knowledge, movement, and presence gave the film the cultural accuracy that climbing audiences recognize.

Nearly 200 VFX shots connected studio talent to a sci-fi mountain world.
Alongside the second-unit climbing work, Rowdy handled nearly 200 VFX shots for The Sound. The team stitched LED studio talent shots into real mountain backgrounds, created 3D character animations, and delivered motion graphics and additional visual effects to build out the film’s sci-fi world. Every intervention supported the physical truth of the climbing, allowing real athlete movement and imagined environments to meet in the same frame.
